Spencer Hockey Club is one of the leading and most respected hockey clubs in the UK, based in South West London, and we are looking to recruit a new coach for our Ladies XI.

Founded in 1872, the club has a rich history and a strong reputation for both performance and community engagement. With over 20 senior teams and a thriving junior section, Spencer HC is committed to developing talent at all levels and fostering a positive, competitive, and inclusive culture.

The Women's 1st Team currently competes in the East Conference within the England Hockey National League structure and has ambitions to continue progressing. The team consists of a talented and motivated group of players, supported by a strong club infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Coach to lead the Women's 1st Team and help drive the squad to further success.

Role Overview

The Women's 1st Team Head Coach will be responsible for leading all aspects of coaching, performance, and player development for the Women's 1st Team. The successful candidate will create a high-performance environment, implement effective training programs, and provide tactical and technical guidance to ensure the team's continued success and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Training & Match Preparation:
    • Plan and deliver high-quality training sessions that focus on technical and tactical development.
    • Prepare the team for competitive matches, including pre-match analysis and strategy development.
    • Lead the team on match days, providing in-game tactical adjustments and feedback.
  2. Player Development:
    • Foster a positive and high-performance culture within the squad.
    • Develop individual player skills through tailored coaching and feedback.
    • Work closely with the club’s wider coaching team to create a pathway for talent progression from the junior and development squads.
  3. Team Management:
    • Collaborate with team captains and leadership groups to maintain a cohesive and motivated squad.
    • Manage squad selection and ensure clear communication with players.
    • Build strong relationships with players, club staff, and stakeholders.
  4. Performance Analysis:
    • Analyse match performance using video where possible to inform coaching decisions.
    • Identify areas for improvement and implement targeted development plans.
  5. Club Engagement:
    • Act as an ambassador for Spencer Hockey Club and contribute to the broader development of women’s hockey within the club.
    • Engage with the club’s junior program to help inspire the next generation of players.

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. Coaching Qualifications:
    • Minimum England Hockey Level 2 Coaching qualification (or equivalent); Level 3 preferred.
    • Experience coaching at a high-performance level (national league or equivalent).
  2. Technical and Tactical Expertise:
    • Strong understanding of modern hockey tactics and player development strategies.
    • Proven ability to implement effective training programs and match strategies.
  3. Leadership and Communication:
    • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to motivate and manage players in a competitive environment.
    • Clear and consistent communicator with players, staff, and club stakeholders.
  4. Commitment and Professionalism:
    • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
    • Passionate about developing talent and driving team success.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
