Job description

Role

Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid is seeking to recruit a women’s worker to provide support to vulnerable women who have experienced domestic abuse.

Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid supports women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage and honour-based abuse primarily from the Asian, Black and Minority Ethnic community.

Experience of working with women and knowledge and understanding of the impact of domestic abuse, forced marriage and honour-based abuse on women from minority ethnic backgrounds is required.

A suitable qualification that meets the needs of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) housing support registration is required; otherwise, training will be provided.

The nature of our work requires a commitment to the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and values of Hemat Gryffe Women’s Aid.

The purpose of this role is to support our Women’s Team with providing a support service to women who are living in our refuges. You will support women being admitted into refuge and will respond to the practical and emotional needs of women as required. Although you will not be a key worker, you will attend appointments with women, signpost and advocate for them and support the running of our group work programmes.

It is essential that you have experience of providing support to women who have experienced trauma or crisis. A suitable qualification that meets with SSSC Housing Support registration is also required (examples would be HNC Social Services or SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Healthcare). The nature of our work requires a commitment to the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and to the values of Glasgow Women’s Aid.

Additional Roles

Are you passionate about children and children’s rights? Do you enjoy working with children and do you have experience of working with children who have experienced trauma? We are looking for a CYP Outreach and Prevention Worker to join our team and provide vital support to children dealing with the trauma of domestic abuse. Our service is delivered to school-age children, predominantly in a school environment. You will provide therapeutic 1-1 and focused group work to children and young people ensuring the service is driven by them and their needs. You will also deliver our unique prevention programme to schools across Glasgow to educate children and young people about domestic abuse in an age-appropriate way.

It is essential that you have experience of supporting children and young people who have experienced gender-based violence. A qualification relevant to working with children and young people, such as SVQ Level 3 Social Service (Children and Young People) is also required. The nature of our work requires a commitment to the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and to the values of Glasgow Women’s Aid. Due to the nature of the role, it is essential that you have a driving license and access to a car.

This is a busy role within our Enough! project that delivers support for young women experiencing domestic abuse in their own relationship. You will work with young women aged 13 to 21 years old, providing person-centered therapeutic support. Many of our young women have complex needs including care leavers and young mums. You will support the young women by working alongside partner agencies to advocate for them to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will deliver a group work programme and will be part of the dedicated evening drop-in for the service. Part of your role will be to raise awareness of domestic abuse among young women and deliver prevention work. You will manage referrals, waiting lists, support plans and case records.

It is essential that you have experience of providing support to young women who have experienced gender-based violence and that you have experience of providing 1-1 person-centered support. Knowledge of the court system would be desirable. A suitable qualification relevant to working with children and young people, such as SVQ Level 3 Social Service (Children and Young People) is also essential.   • 21 hours per week (exact working pattern to be negotiated but must include a Wednesday)
  • Pay Rate: £28,950.77 (pro rata for this role is £17,370.46)

East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid (EDWA) is looking for a passionate and skilled individual to lead our early intervention and prevention work with young people aged 11-18. This vital role aims to prevent domestic abuse by promoting healthy relationships and empowering young people to challenge harmful behaviours.

As our Children and Young Person's Prevention Worker, you will design and deliver educational workshops within schools and community settings in East Dunbartonshire. These sessions will address key topics such as healthy relationships, emotional well-being, and challenging misogynistic behaviours. You’ll also collaborate with schools and partner agencies to develop tailored interventions that inspire change and build resilience in young people.

The role involves developing creative resources, engaging with diverse audiences, and keeping on top of emerging trends like the influence of online media. You’ll provide post-session support by signposting further resources or referrals where needed and ensure robust monitoring and reporting to demonstrate the impact of the work.

Candidates should have:

  • Experience in delivering engaging educational workshops tailored for young people in schools or community settings.
  • An understanding of domestic abuse and gender-based violence, including how social norms and online influences contribute to harmful behaviours.
  • A clear passion for working with young people around this subject matter.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to connect with young people, professionals, and partner organisations.
  • A deep awareness and understanding of teenage culture, social media platforms, and emerging trends—including the language young people use, key influencers, and digital spaces. The ability to incorporate this knowledge into workshops in a relatable and impactful way is essential.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, with the ability to create resources, track progress, and report on impact.
  • A firm commitment to feminist principles and gender equality.

The role will involve work across East Dunbartonshire, particularly in schools. Attendance will be required at weekly team meetings in our main office in Kirkintilloch to fulfil collective management responsibilities. Flexibility and the ability to travel throughout the local area are essential.

This is an exciting and necessary new post which is currently funded by East Dunbartonshire Council through the Children & Families Wellbeing Fund for 1 year (after start date), with the opportunity to reapply in Year 2.
