We are looking for a Water Supply Options Engineer to join our Water Resources team on a permanent basis with a salary of circa £42,000 per annum and amazing benefits.
About the role:
You will develop the future supply options pipeline and associated appraisals (asset and nature-based solutions) – bringing multiple parts of the business together to define strategic options. The water resource strategic planning team is responsible for creating the Regional Plan, Water Resources Management Plan (MRMP), Drought Plan and supporting the WINEP investigation delivery. They will be the guiding mind for our 50 year strategy and help to shape the investment cases for long term water resource options for the operating regions.
You will identify and develop innovative supply options that address future water needs while mitigating associated risks and will collaborate to ensure the outputs are effectively integrated into the strategic planning processes. You are an experienced and analytical water resilience professional, possessing a strong technical background in Water Options development and/or engineering and sustainability. Your confidence in engaging with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and local communities fosters transparent communication, addresses concerns, and cultivates collaborative relationships.
What you'll be doing:
- You will develop options into tangible supply solutions – review, oversee design, and undertake scheme development with sufficient detail to be deliverable and following WRMP guidance.
- You will be responsible for the production of enhancement cases to support the business plan.
- You will support in the provision of relevant supply options input materials for WRMP and Drought Plan submission.
- You will, via the Modelling Data and Systems Team, collect, analyse, and interpret data related to water system performance, environmental conditions, and community demographics.
- You will prepare technical reports, presentations, and communication materials summarising resilience assessments, findings, and recommendations for stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Support continual review of supply options and oversee delivery of remedial actions.
- You will contribute by applying engineering principles, modelling tools, and risk assessment techniques to support the identification and prioritisation of resilience enhancement measures.
- You will assist in the preparation of budgets, financial forecasts, and cost-benefit analyses for water resource management initiatives and projects. This also involves monitoring expenditures, track performance metrics, and recommend adjustments to ensure cost-effective operations and sustainable financial practices.
- You will work closely with stakeholders to support the development of strategies for optimising water allocation and ensuring reliable water supply to customers.
- You will monitor regulatory requirements related to water resource management, including permits, water rights, environmental regulations, and reporting obligations.
- You are expected to stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in water resource management through research, networking, and professional development activities.
What we are looking for:
- Geology/ hydrology/ Civil Engineering/ Environmental Engineering/ related Degree
- Masters degree in Engineering/ related discipline is desirable
- Hold professional chartership of a recognised body (e.g CIWEM) is desirable
- Experience in water resources management, resilience planning, or related field
- Experience working with water supply systems, water treatment processes, and distribution networks
- Proven track record of working on projects related to water resilience, adaptation to climate change impacts, and risk assessment/mitigation in the water sector
- Experience with project management, including planning, budgeting, scheduling and coordinating activities
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Understanding of hydrological principles, including water cycle processes, surface water and groundwater interactions, and water quality parameters
