Grow here.Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure?We're looking for a Civil Engineer to join our growing Water Solutions team in St Albans, Croydon, or Basingstoke. In this role, you'll support the delivery of Southern Water's GBP3.7 billion capital delivery programme, working on projects ranging from small rural sites to multi-million-pound schemes, covering both water and wastewater (Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure). The frameworks run for seven and five years, respectively, with the option to extend for an additional 5 years.
You'll have the opportunity to contribute to two major frameworks as part of this investment:
- Strategic Delivery Partner (SDP) Framework: Supporting our Tier 1 Contractor on Lot 1 (non-infrastructure water projects) and Lot 2 (non-infrastructure wastewater projects).
- Low Complexity Delivery Route Lot 2 (Wastewater Infrastructure) Framework and Strategic Delivery Partner (SDP) Lot 3 Infrastructure Framework: Partnering exclusively with a Tier 1 contractor to deliver sustainable, high-quality water and wastewater solutions.
Working flexibly from
Southern UK locations, you'll visit client sites in and around Brighton and collaborate with teams across multi-year frameworks. As part of our thriving business, you'll take on rewarding multi-disciplinary projects from inception to delivery, creating innovative solutions that enhance the environment and improve communities.
Here's what you'll do:- Collaborate with a dynamic and diverse team to deliver impactful solutions for the communities we serve, contributing to technical work, site work, and project management.
- Conduct technical and feasibility studies to assess practical and buildable solutions for potable water, foul water, surface water, and attenuation needs, including detailed calculations and integration with other disciplines.
- Perform numerical analyses using advanced software tools to evaluate potable, surface, and wastewater systems.
- Carry out structural analysis and design, including determining load cases and leveraging analysis software for accurate assessments.
- Design water infrastructure, such as pump systems and pipe networks, emphasizing safety in design by preparing Designer's Risk Assessments and working closely with technicians to produce comprehensive working drawings.
- Stay updated on changes in regulatory legislation, standards, and guidelines that could impact design processes.
- Gain valuable on-site experience through site visits and project implementation, enhancing your understanding of how designs translate into real-world outcomes.

QualificationsReady to push the limits of what's possible?Here's what we're looking for:- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstratable equivalent experience.
- Proven experience within the water sector working for a consultancy.
- Working towards chartership or incorporated status with a relevant institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM etc.
- Experience of undertaking engineering assessments, options appraisals, engineering calculations and / or economic appraisal.
- Experience of outline and / or detailed design, preferably of wastewater / water treatment schemes and / or flood risk management or drainage schemes.
