Job SummaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible, positive, self-motivated individual to provide comprehensive ward clerk support in The Cat Unit at Leeds Childrens Hospital. The Cat Unit is a fast-paced busy childrens assessment unit where children attend from the GP, home and the emergency department which is open for 24 hours per day 365 days per year. The post holder will be required to work shifts over a 24-hour period covering nights weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the jobThe individual will work within a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of administration staff, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals patients and their care givers. The ward clerk will greet patients and their carers at the reception desk to book them on the system and direct them to the appropriate waiting area. Main duties will include recording real time admissions, discharges, and transfers on the trust patient administration system. They will answer the main reception telephone and door and general patient enquiries. The individual will be responsible for ordering using the oracle system, maintaining, and stocking the stationary cupboard on the unit.

Job DescriptionJob ResponsibilitiesTo undertake administrative duties at ward level including the accurate and timely recording of patient activity data on Trust systems. To undertake clerical and related duties on the ward and enable Sister/Charge Nurse and other ward staff to concentrate more freely on direct patient care. This will involve considerable liaison with other departments and wards on behalf of the ward staff.
Person SpecificationSkills- IT skills including familiarity with pas and ppm system.
- Excellent communication skills showing empathy to patients and their carers.
- Able to work under pressure in busy periods of the day.
Other Criteria- Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
QualificationsDesirableExperience- Previous ward clerk experience.
Desirable- Previous ward clerk experience within an acute hospital setting.
