This role is a European role and can be based from a number of European countries.
The Vice President of Medical Affairs Europe will lead the Field Medical Centre of Excellence within the European Region and will have primary accountability to meet or exceed business goals for all assigned field medical teams across the region. They will be a trusted partner in providing strategic insight and clinical knowledge in support of proposal responses and awarded projects and will also play an integral role in organising and directing the activities of Field Medical teams. This position reports to the SVP Global Field Medical and matrix reporting to the SVP Deployment Solutions in Europe and is part of the European Deployment Solutions Leadership Team.
The VP Medical Affairs will have first- and second-line management responsibilities oversight for all field Medical personnel across multiple client accounts and ensure that our clients' expectations and goals are identified, measurable, time-bound, and attainable. The VP Medical Affairs will identify, develop, and implement actions to achieve operational excellence and cost efficiency and will cultivate long-term relationships with other Syneos Health senior management across Syneos Health, Clinical and Commercial business segments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and grow the Field Medical practice that is "best in class" and the leading supplier of outsourced, MSLs, Research Science Liaisons (RSL) and Clinical Educators within the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
- Hire and deploy high-performing teams by establishing clear performance standards, hiring practices, and programs focused on talent acquisition and retention.
- Oversee people and leadership development strategies and programs.
- Identifies the core competencies and future capabilities for medical affairs personnel that are required to lead and evolve the organisation's staff, and future leaders.
- Lead staff and guide personnel to meet or exceed project contractual performance goals and communicate issues identified.
- Recommend quantitative and qualitative measures identify standards for communicating value demonstration and return on investment.
- Guides, develops, and implements strategic account plans field objectives, plans and budgets per team; guides the successful execution and evolution of strategies and stakeholder engagement plans for field personnel.
- Work strategically with internal stakeholders including department heads and other Syneos Health divisions to identify and design integrated and convergent solutions to customers where applicable.
- Manage on-going performance feedback and coaching processes for all direct reports and field teams within the business unit.
- Review and provide subject matter expertise for all business proposals, financial, and performance metrics.
- Participate in solution design, bid defence/business presentations, transition planning expectation setting, and launch meetings.
- Oversee skills-based and scientific training, career development programs.
- Establish and maintain a positive work environment that rewards innovation and customer impact. Promote and model actions that encourage growth and advancement and talent retention of top performing and high potential employees.
- Demonstrate proven skills in attracting, interviewing, staffing, coaching, and retaining top talent.
- Manage annual budget for business unit with responsible fiscal expense management.
- Identify governance and risk mitigation processes and adhere to compliance standards for all programs, staff and others to meet in country regulations and guidelines.
- Provide reports (e.g. business and growth opportunities along with risk identification and management) to inform internal and customer leadership as appropriate.
- Oversees the development of policies and processes to guide the daily operations of Field Staff and ensure compliance practices in customer interactions. Ensure country specific business rules are defined and adhered to.

Requirements
- Educated to degree level (PharmD, MD, PhD) preferred.
- Experience in medical affairs leadership with specific focus on MSL or clinical educator team management experience.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Possesses superior presentation and listening skills and commitment to instilling standards of excellence at every level in the Medical Affairs organisation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office (strong working knowledge of Excel, Project, and PowerPoint).
- Strengths in clinical, business, and emotional intelligence as well as information systems and technology.
- Proven ability to lead teams, programs and discussions that create new business opportunities and value generation.
- The ability to articulate the medical affairs value proposition to existing and potential customers.
- The aptitude to create credibility and establish business confidence with customers that leads to organic and new business growth.
- Flexible with the ability to adapt to changing internal and external environments.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Knowledge of national codes of conduct guidelines, especially those that apply to Medical Affairs.
- Understanding of GCP guidelines specially in the scope of:
- Phase II-IV company sponsored interventional trials,
- RWE generation: NI trials, Early Access Programs / Named Patient Programs, Investigator Sponsored Research Support.
- Good communication skills in English and languages of supported countries.
