About the role

If you enjoy chatting to others, bringing people together and connecting people with where they want to be, then this is the role for you!

This opportunity is for a Volunteer Activity Lead to support with our Barnstaple Flourish Café. Based at our North Devon Hub for Together Drug and Alcohol Services, you will be helping to make people feel at ease, encourage social connection through conversation, signpost to other local activities and facilitate focused activities. This role has the option of combining with a Recovery Support Volunteer (please see separate vacancy) – if this is of interest, please let us know in your application.

Tasks you might be involved in include:

  • Being a friendly face and welcoming those who attend
  • Taking a person’s details and connecting them with the relevant member of staff, volunteer or group
  • Offering a listening ear and facilitating discussions that bring people together
  • Setting up the cafe, keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy, and packing away following each session
  • Making hot drinks and preparing basic food, such as slices of toast and spreads
  • Promoting and signposting activities available across Together and in the wider community
  • Recording numbers of attendees, noting any particular topics of interest or signpostings made
  • Identifying and reporting any concerns or risks to the Duty staff or Duty Manager within the building
  • Planning and delivering activities (including helping with writing risk assessments) – these could be creative based arts and craft, board games, music based, or other skills and interests that you bring with you.

As a volunteer with Waythrough, you can expect to receive:

  • Regular supervision and support
  • Induction and access to online and face to face training
  • To learn and practice new skills within a teamwork setting
  • To feel part of a team and the wider Waythrough organisation
  • Reasonable travel expenses reimbursed with proof of journey
  • Opportunities to progress and experience other areas of Waythrough's work
