Job description

This advert is for an Education Advisor who will work within our Achievement Through Access and Inclusion team. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the barriers which may be faced by care-experienced children and young people and the impact of these on educational outcomes. They will contribute to the work of the advisory team in responding to referrals at an individual child level and will also drive preventative work in response to trends and patterns.

What will you be doing?

You will support a caseload of children and young people who may need additional support around attendance, inclusion or access to education.

You will provide support and challenge for the wider professional network and implement a solution-focused approach for individual children through a trauma-informed lens.

You will promote culture, policy and practice within settings, schools and providers which adheres to statutory admissions, exclusion and attendance guidance and minimises risk for children in care.

You will work in partnership with key stakeholders, including social care and SEND, within and beyond the LA.

About you

You will have up-to-date knowledge of the education system, recent experience of working in a school, Local Authority or virtual school, and a strong understanding of the barriers faced by care-experienced children and will offer support and challenge to ensure that educational outcomes are maximised.

You will be familiar with SEND, exclusions, attendance and admissions statutory guidance.

You will be responsible for building relationships and providing support and challenge for key partners including senior leaders in schools to promote inclusion. Specifically, you will work to address concerns around attendance, exclusion and engagement.

You will be confident at communicating effectively, efficient, organised and be able to work using your own initiative within a wider team.

You must be able to drive and may be expected to travel outside of Cambridgeshire.
