Disc Medicine is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to discovering, developing, and commercializing novel treatments for patients who suffer from serious hematologic diseases. We are building a portfolio of innovative, first-in-class therapeutic candidates that aim to address a wide spectrum of hematologic diseases by targeting fundamental biological pathways of red blood cell biology, specifically heme biosynthesis and iron homeostasis. As Disc Medicine evolves from a development-stage organization to a commercial entity, the Company has a new open role for a Vice President of Market Access, reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving the company's growth trajectory and achieving strategic objectives.

The Vice President of Market Access will lead the planning and execution of strategies across market access, pricing, reimbursement, distribution, patient services, government pricing, and payer account management. The role is responsible for building and leading the US market Access function required to successfully launch Disc Medicine’s first commercial product.

This role requires a self-starter who is highly driven, collaborative, and can lead with influence in a matrix organization. They should be an expert in US market access dynamics and reimbursement complexities. They will play an integral role in shaping and building a fit for purpose US market access organization to support near-term and future product launches.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Function Development: Establish and scale Disc Medicine’s market access function by recruiting top industry talent to build a high-performing managed markets team including payer account managers, payer marketing, distribution & patient services, and government pricing.
  • Market Access Strategy: Develop, lead and implement all aspects of US market access strategy, including payer strategy, pricing, distributor & channel partner relationships, patient access services, and field-based account management.
  • Payer Insights: Collaborate and design payer research and payer advisory boards to understand primary value drivers and requirements to ensure optimized access.
  • Value Proposition & Messaging: Collaborate with Marketing and Medical Affairs to develop compelling product value propositions, evidence generation plans, messaging, and economic models that support market access strategies.
  • Data Strategy & Analytics: Work closely with Commercial Operations and Finance teams to manage data flows, track performance metrics, identify trends, and leverage insights to optimize market access efforts.
  • Government Pricing: Oversee government pricing operations including government pricing submissions and certificates and ensure compliance with government program financials and reporting. Ensure accurate and timely compliance with all state price transparency reporting requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of payer access professionals, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives and culture.
  • Field-based Account Management: Lead the field-based account management team in driving value with payers and related accounts to ensure access and reimbursement.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with key commercial, medical, finance, tech ops, legal and regulatory functions to ensure seamless integration of market access priorities into business planning and execution.
  • Pipeline Planning: Contribute market access expertise to pipeline planning for early-stage development programs, ensuring the development of market access strategies that support future product launches. Provide market access perspectives as needed for business development opportunities.
  • Compliance: Understand and adhere to regulatory, legal, and compliance guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or another Advanced Degree preferred
  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience and minimum of 10 years in market access leadership positions, including building and leading payer account teams
  • Launch experience and market building in the US required; in Global markets preferred.
  • Track record of working collaboratively with legal, compliance, medical affairs, regulatory, finance and other cross-functional colleagues to meet company objectives
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to prioritize and successfully execute multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Combination of strong strategic thinking with the ability to execute tactical plans
  • Possess strong ‘executive presence’ and excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in rapidly changing environment
  • Successful small company, pre-commercialization experience is highly preferred
  • Position requires up to 30% travel
