About Us

We are a small independent mixed practice based in Bakewell in beautiful part of the world. We have a separate dedicated equine branch with three vets, but our main facility is a first opinion small animal clinic and farm animal office with 7 vets. We provide an ambulatory farm animal service to a range of traditional family farms across the Peak District. We have around 60 Dairy clients both large and small, and a large number of mixed beef and sheep farms (as well as the usual fun mix of small holders). We provide the usual first opinion veterinary services and enjoy a long historic relationship with our clients going back nearly a century. Our small animal clinic is well established and ever growing. We offer first opinion consultations by appointment and offer a full range of diagnostic equipment (digital x-ray, ultrasound, endoscope) and a spectrum of surgical procedures in a recently refurbished facility. Being independent the right person can have a large amount of clinical freedom to pursue areas of interest where appropriate, with an experienced team to share ideas and support each other. We are in the heart of the peak district, situated between Sheffield and Manchester so we're not too isolated!

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic vet ideally with experience to join our team to fill a position doing farm animal or a mix of farm and small animal. We are replacing a farm animal only role, but we could accommodate this with a replacement farm animal only Vet or a mixed Vet. The farm animal role will be providing routine veterinary services to our mixed farm clients. Fertility work, TB testing, herd health planning, health schemes, sick animals, obstetrics etc. For candidates interested in small animal work also then the rota would include first opinion consults and surgery days.

Successful Candidate

Our ideal candidate would be someone who has some clinical experience, so they are confident with day one competencies who feels they would like to consider a move to work in one of the few remaining independent practices. We don't have a high staff turnover rate, most of our vets have been here for well over a decade and a few their entire careers. We want someone to be part of our family, and to settle into a lifestyle role in a proper rural community. We are happy for someone to further specific areas of interest and form their own niche.

The Package

• Full-time salaried position
• Monday to Friday with one afternoon off each week
• 1:5 OOH rota (i.e. one in 5 weekends, and 1 night a week on call)
• 25 days paid holiday plus bank holidays
• 5-day CPD allowance and encouraged
