The role
As a Vehicle Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We have exciting opportunities for enthusiastic Vehicle Technicians to join our Equipment Support Department. You'll be involved with conducting servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repair, and modification to a wide range of military vehicles - one day could see you working on a Land Rover, the next on a sophisticated Challenger Two main battle tank. You'll also diagnose and repair training aids, associated plant, tools, and machinery.

Day-to-day, you’ll inspect, service, repair and maintain a wide variety of familiar and unfamiliar vehicle platforms and training aids using modern repair techniques and technical documentation to achieve positive outcomes, as well as:

  • Conduct service, repair and maintenance activities as per the manufacturer’s instructions and technical publications.
  • Ensure all equipment Joint Asset Management Equipment System (JAMES) Job Cards are completed accurately.
  • Conduct all activities to current MOD standards, and compliance with VOSA/D inspection standards.
  • Conduct all activities in accordance with current Health and Safety legislation.
  • Mentor apprentices or assist the appointed Mentor, as required.

The Vehicle Technician role is full-time, 37 hours per week, and based onsite at MOD Lyneham. Successful candidates must be willing and have the ability to attend courses as required, and successfully pass any specific training deemed essential to their role. There is also an opportunity to work 37 hours over a 4 day working week.

Essential experience of the Vehicle Technician:

  • Experience gained in a busy workshop environment.
  • Proficient use of computer systems, with a good understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrable problem-solving skills, drawing on technical knowledge and previous experience.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities as necessary, over entire range of supported platforms and equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and in a timely manner to achieve set targets and specific deadlines.

Qualifications for the Vehicle Technician:

  • Recognised qualification in Automotive Engineering with a minimum IMI or C&G Level Three or BTEC/IMI/NVQ equivalent; OR previously served in the Armed Forces as a Vehicle Mechanic/Technician Class One.
  • Diagnostic Technician qualification or significant diagnostic experience.
  • Valid Category ‘B’ Driving Licence (essential).
  • Valid category ‘C’ or ‘C+E’ and 'H' licenses (desirable, but not essential).

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) clearance for this role.
