Job description

Vacancy for Community Archive Officer at Hampshire County Council

6 November 2023

Hampshire Record Office, Winchester - this is a hybrid role

Fixed Term

Archives are about everyone’s lives, not just prominent people, places or events!

Would you like to engage with local Andover communities to encourage them to add a slice of their lives to an archive, so that the collections of the future will represent them?

Building strong relationships with participant communities and individuals, you will provide ongoing support and advice to raise awareness of the relevance of their own archives and the drive to capture representative reflections of Andover life to create its future screen heritage.

As Community Archive Officer, your role will include engaging with individuals and groups in Andover to support the creation, preservation, and accessibility of archives from those currently under-represented in local collections.

To be successful, you must be comfortable working with groups of people to design and deliver a range of engaging activities in a community setting, whether that’s co-curating film content for screenings or supporting the sustainability of community archive projects.

You’ll need an outgoing friendly personality and positive attitude, enjoy meeting people and be confident with public speaking. You’ll also have practical experience of engaging and working with community groups and volunteers, alongside knowledge of the cultural heritage sector. Ideally, your enthusiasm for archive film will be accompanied by familiarity with video recording.

The role will include some home working alongside travel within the Andover area, with occasional visits to Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, so you must have the ability to travel, as necessary.

The post is fixed term, part time. Additionally, we also offer flexible working and a flexi scheme to support your excellent work/life balance. This could include condensed hours or flexible hours within the operational requirements of the role. Please state your preference on your application.

If you believe you have the skills and experience we are looking for, we would welcome your application for this role.
