Job description

We are seeking a mid-Level UX/UI designer with a strong portfolio of work on digital products and services to join our client - a leading telecommunications company.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality design deliverables for both web and mobile services (Android & iOS), playing a crucial role in the visual design and user experience of our products.

The UX/UI designer role is situated within a London team, part of a larger department consisting of around 160 UX and design professionals located across five sites in France, plus London.

Skills and Techniques Summary

  • The role requires a good grasp of the end-to-end design processes, starting from requirements capture, ideation, developing concepts, sketching, prototyping and producing final deliverables.
  • The role is focussed on UX/UI production and expected to prepare and perform the relevant design activities at each phase of a project, such as wireframing, prototyping, asset production, UI hand-off, etc.).
  • The UX/UI role will need to develop detailed knowledge of design system components and the guidance for their usage.
  • The role is likely to involve working with user researchers, which requires understanding the role and purpose of user research and how insights are integrated in the design process.
  • The role requires familiarity with and observation of ethical and inclusive design practices, including accessibility recommendations (e.g., W3C WAI and WCAG).
  • Communication skills and stakeholder relationship management are important aspects of the role for design delivery. The UX/UI designer needs to be confident presenting design proposals, defending decisions and communicating design value to non-specialist audiences.
  • Designers generally participate in multi-disciplinary teams involving researchers, developers, product owners, and other contributors. Different project methodologies coexist, but Agile frameworks are widely adopted, and the design role should be comfortable providing design advocacy in these environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the overall design for assigned projects by selecting the relevant design methods and techniques, identifying and exploiting available research, creating design deliverables and validating against user expectations.
  • Advocacy for relevant design methodologies and processes within a project.
  • Translate requirements into design deliverables, such as templates, UI components, design patterns and finalised user interfaces.
  • Design and prototype intuitive and engaging user interfaces for mobile and web services.
  • Provide the suitable adaptation of UI and UX to local culture, language and conditions of target markets.
  • Collaborate effectively with the product team, stakeholders and design peers.
  • Self-manage design tasks from requirements to delivery.
  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and product stakeholders.
  • Provide updates and feedback in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Involve user research and evaluate user feedback to optimize applications.
  • Ensure design output is aligned with guidelines and follows best practices and interface standards.
  • Ensure that design contributes towards business goals, brand values and strategic priorities.

Required knowledge & experience

  • Highly proficient with Figma.
  • Proficient with design tools, such as Illustrator or equivalent software.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with research and observation techniques, such as usability testing, AB-testing, user surveys, etc.
  • Formal qualifications in areas such as human-computer interaction or interface design are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with established design methodologies, such as double-diamond, design thinking, user-centric design, participatory design, are important.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English.
  • French could be advantageous but is not mandatory.
