The Role:

As Project Manager you will be responsible for all stages of excavation works on site. You will be required to be out in the field and proactively managing, coaching and mentoring the supervisors, pre-empting issues, and working with them to resolve any challenges quickly and effectively. We are committed to the health and safety of our teams and a key part of this role is to ensure compliance is always achieved in this but that the Supervisors and teams are completing work on time and as per the job specification.


Hours of work: Monday to Friday 50 hours per week, some weekend work required, and you will be responsible for ensuring all weekend work is covered.


Specific Responsibilities/Tasks
  1. Co-ordinate, manage and plan contractors/direct labour and operative resources on the project, as well as plant and equipment, necessary street work requirements/permits and ensure all work packs and relevant documents are produced.
  2. Liaise daily with the Operations Director, NGED Contracts manager, NGED personnel and other multiple stakeholders.
  3. Deal with Customer complaints as per the Contract requirements and company procedures.
  4. Plan, manage and co-ordinate safety and site manager audits.
  5. Ensure all jobs, RAMs are updated on the client and company systems.
  6. Manage the reinstatement process effectively on jobs under their responsibility.
  7. Identify and resolve any queries or performance related issues arising from this project.
  8. Assess all upcoming works within their designated area to establish if Traffic management is required and booked to the works.
  9. Ensure that Supervisors brief civil teams on tasks to be undertaken within their designated area, work packs discussed, and any hazards outlined prior to mobilisation to site.
  10. Collate & approve weekly timesheets from civil team under their supervision.
  11. Collate all Vehicle & plant paperwork for teams operating under their supervision the previous week.
  12. Attend to site immediately for discovery, latent damage, or utility damage and attend all Utility Damage de-brief under their supervision.
  13. Conduct final walk-off on all works over 100m under their control to assess if any defects are present.
  14. Order any specialist materials required on works being completed under their control in sufficient time via Doocey procurement for reinstatement to be completed within permit dates.

Qualifications & Training
  1. Used to working in a fast-paced and at times pressurised environment.
  2. Strong decision-making skills.
  3. Strong communication skills: telephone, verbal & written.
  4. IT/Computer skills (MS Office, Outlook and using client 3rd party software).
  5. Good standard of problem-solving ability.
  6. Planning and Organising skills.
  7. Experience in supervising people.
  8. Ability to professionally represent our organisation with all stakeholders including the main client and the public.

Technical Skills & Experience
  1. Experience of managing short term civils projects of this nature and supervising civil teams.
  2. Previous experience of working as Utilities Site Supervisor or Site manager on an electric contract.
  3. NRSWA street works qualification - preferably at supervisory level as well as a SMSTS certification.
  4. General civil engineering knowledge.
  5. Ability to read & understand utility plans and construction drawings.
  6. Experience in dealing directly with clients.
  7. Awareness of clients and customer expectations.
  8. Full understanding of NRSWA compliance to facilitate completion of works on Highway.
  9. Ability to work to deadlines.
  10. Full UK driving licence.
