Job description

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, accepting of all, and free from discrimination and bias. We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this. In a simple sense, all our work, at whatever level, should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Our Values

In line with our One Coventry Values, we want to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applicants from minority ethnic, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equity and respect remain at the heart of everything we do.

  1. Open and fair: We are fair, open, and transparent.
  2. Nurture and develop: We help and encourage everyone to be their best and do their best.
  3. Engage and empower: We talk and listen to others, working together as one.
  4. Create and innovate: We embrace new ways of working to continuously improve.
  5. Own and be accountable: We work together to deliver the best services for our residents.
  6. Value and respect: We put diversity and inclusion at the heart of all we do.

Coventry City Council’s Adult Services have a simple vision and strategy: “Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people.” We deliver this strategy through a wide range of vital services, such as:

  1. Working with adults of all ages with care and support needs and their carers
  2. Enhancing people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
  3. Enabling people to live independent and fulfilled lives by providing direct support
  4. Conducting Financial Assessments
  5. Improving performance of the wider service

The Business Systems Teams support both Adult and Children’s Services, working with internal colleagues, external partners, and external organisations. We handle user queries, application incidents and improve the performance of our wider service through system developments and process improvements.

What is the job role?

An opportunity has arisen in the Business Systems (Adults) Team. This is a fast-paced working environment, incorporating a wide variety of skills. This is an exciting time to join us, as we move towards implementing a new system to meet our statutory responsibilities in delivering outstanding service to Coventry's citizens.

You will work closely with colleagues across Adult Services, ICT and Performance and will deputise for the Business Systems Manager. You will provide expert support to the users of our main business systems to ensure good quality and timely record-keeping and effective use of corporate financial and physical resources.

You will lead on the development of systems, users and processes to ensure the systems are up-to-date, relevant and supportive of the work and priorities of Adult Social Care, its staff and customers. As part of this role, you will have responsibility for providing first line support relating to the system's financial processing functions.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills in line management, systems and project management, using data analysis to inform developments.

Who are we looking for?

Someone who can:

  1. Lead Business Systems functions including support desk, projects and direct the activities and priorities of staff to meet varied and multiple objectives within identified timescales.
  2. Plan the development and extension of current application use across the Directorate to ensure that the use of unsupported systems is minimised, and data is appropriately managed.
  3. Work in close collaboration with ICT to ensure business cases are made, plans created, and changes delivered to time.
  4. Facilitate collaborative working with key stakeholders and lead practice-based meetings to ensure that system developments promote good practice and Service Managers are provided with advice and guidance to enable the systems to be used to their full potential in accordance with the relevant policies.

We value and respect diversity and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects Coventry’s diverse communities. As a result, we strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for this post. We have policies and procedures in place to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and consistently at every stage of the recruitment process, including the consideration of reasonable adjustments for people who have a disability or who are neuro diverse.
