Job description

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn't exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The School of Education enjoys a strong reputation for its vibrant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with exciting local, regional and international partnerships, and sector-leading student opportunities and enrichment.

Our Initial Teacher Education programmes have been recognised for their quality by Ofsted, and our forward-thinking programme teams benefit from positive, collaborative relationships with a range of committed school partners across the region. We expect our students to experience the very best practice-based teaching and learning in the classroom and now seek an enthusiastic and committed University Teacher to support teaching, learning and assessment needs. There will also be some classroom support required for other subject areas in the School of Education as appropriate.

Key aspects of the role include:
  1. With supervision - and as part of a teaching team, assist in the delivery of teaching and associated student activities within established programmes.
  2. Provide support to the teaching process. This includes supporting the practical planning and preparation for lessons, organising, ordering and managing materials as required throughout the academic year.
  3. Contribute to the planning of teaching programmes and activities - including in-class preparation of materials and being responsible for ensuring that teaching needs are supported and supervised for practical work.
  4. Be familiar with subject-based pedagogy and any associated materials as appropriate.
  5. Undertake organisational and administrative tasks to support the team.
  6. Contribute to wider school/university activities which support teaching, learning and general student support.

This is your opportunity to be a key contributor to providing a high quality, exceptional and transformative educational experience for new teachers and other students in our School, and to be part of our continued development. We believe that LJMU is an environment that will enable your successes to be recognised, celebrated and rewarded. You will join a team of staff with significant real-world experience and a range of research interests. If you are student-focused, enthusiastic and motivated, then LJMU is an excellent place to work.

Informal enquiries may be made to Jane Gargan (Head of ITE, School of Education) at.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

At LJMU, we value the benefits a rich and diverse workforce brings to our community and therefore welcome applications from all sections of society. The School of Education is currently under-represented with regards to staff from Black, Asian, and other global majority backgrounds. We welcome applications from all eligible applicants. LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.
