Job Title: Underwriting Assistant

Location: London/Hybrid (Typically 2/3 days in the office)

Type: Full time - Permanent

Manager Says:

The purpose of the role is to work within the P & C team and assist the underwriters in providing service excellent to Brokers and delivering growth.


What You Will Do:

  1. Ensure thorough understanding of the rules and parameters for in scoping the various lines of business.
  2. As guided by the underwriters, undertake the following activities:
  3. Monitor receipt of submissions.
  4. Issue rating sheets.
  5. Monitor and chase open quotes.
  6. Process firm orders and issuing documents.
  7. Ensure accurate and timely capture of data on internal systems.
  8. Monitor diary system.
  9. Instruct Surveys and liaise with Surveyors.
  10. Ensure timely filing of all correspondence.
  11. Where required, processing mid term adjustments.
  12. Participate in regular team meetings and take minutes.
  13. Build good working relationships with the various brokers.
  14. Various ad-hoc tasks to support the end-to-end processes of the Property & Casualty team as directed by the Underwriters.

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. High level proficiency in MS Outlook, Word and Excel - PowerPoint experience can be beneficial also.
  2. Strong, analytical, verbal and written communication skills are valuable.

Person Specification:

  1. The role would be split between home working and the London office. As such you should have the ability to be self-motivated/disciplined but also be a team player.
  2. Accuracy and attention to detail is critical, and an interest in data and spotting inconsistencies would be an asset.
  3. A willingness to be involved in more in-depth work during busy periods, with a view to learning the underwriting role and progressing to that role.
  4. You should be comfortable working with all members of the team and contacting brokers to chase any outstanding items.

This is your chance to voice your thoughts on the role and we will outline our expectations and ensure this role aligns with your ambitions for the future.
  4. Depending on the role, you may be invited to attend a second stage interview with further members of the team.
