Underwriter I – Wholesale Casualty, UK & Ireland

The UK & Ireland Wholesale Casualty is a team of 6 experienced London Market Underwriters with a reputation as a market of choice in the UK&I wholesale space. The portfolio consists of Employer’s Liability, Public / Products / Pollution Liability and Contractors’ All Risks / mobile plant and equipment. Appetite is broad and includes contractors, construction, general engineering and manufacturing, life science and products liability driven business written across both Lloyds & Company platforms. Our expertise encompasses Delegated Authority, Facility & Open Market business.

This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  1. Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account.
  2. Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the International Wholesale Liability sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs while ensuring profitability.
  3. Proactively advising, assisting, servicing, and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  4. Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
  5. Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
  6. In coordination with other internal teams, determining appropriate reinsurance for risk placements both on excess of loss and quota share basis.
  7. Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
  8. Supporting the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits; monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  9. Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.

You will report to the Underwriting Manager.

SHARE your talent

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  1. Proven underwriting experience in Wholesale Casualty, possessing functional knowledge and skills reflective of a fully competent practitioner.
  2. Demonstrated progression through the UA and AU roles.
  3. Preferably direct and active experience of working in the Lloyd’s market including knowledge of handling Binder & MGA business.
  4. Good industry knowledge and awareness of factors affecting this market.
  5. Excellent customer service skills, including written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Demonstrable analytical, negotiation and sales skills.
