Underwriter - Existing Business (Construction)

To actively participate in Underwriting team activity ensuring the production of Renewal and Mid Term Amendment or New Business quotations in line with Underwriting guides, service level agreements, and within business operating standards. Using your skills, you will be responsible for achieving income targets across a range of insurance products and motivating others to do the same. Ensuring technical compliance and maintaining Broker and Insurance Partner relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and provide Renewal and MTA and/or New Business quotations to Broker Partners based on personal authority limitations.
  • Instigate regular dialogue with Broker partners on allocated renewals/issued quotations to secure instruction and achieve individual and collective targets.
  • Provide accurate and compliant Renewals and Mid-term adjustments and new business quotations in line with pricing levels, risk selection criteria and ensure that income and conversion objectives are achieved.
  • Work with Business Development to achieve business growth in accordance with targets whilst Underwriting to agreed loss ratios.
  • Utilise communication and negotiation techniques and skills to clearly explain the features and benefits of our products, ensuring that every Broker receives a full complement of sales and upselling opportunities.
  • Adhere to the contents of the Operating Procedure Manual and Business Unit Supplemental Operating Procedure Manual and Underwriting guides at all times.
  • Ensure the TCF principals are fully understood and applied across all business partners.
  • Carry out any additional duties as agreed with your Team Leader or Product Manager.

Experience:

  • Experience of working within a Regulated FCA environment desirable.
  • Previous Liability/Casualty underwriting experience is desirable.
  • Understanding of the Broker market & ability to develop effective broker relationships.
  • Proven understanding of underwriting guidelines for all transactions (renewals, endorsements, cancellations, etc.) and ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of market wordings and products.
