Boeing Defence UK is offering the opportunity to join the C-17 International Field Services Safety Management team based at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire. The successful candidate will work closely with the on-site Safety Officials to ensure timely and effective Occurrence Report investigations are conducted to underpin the C-17 Just Culture policy and support the organisation’s risk mitigation strategies.
Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead Local and Safety Investigations in response to the triaging of C-17 occurrence reports. This could also include joint investigations with MoD Safety Investigators.
- Support C-17 related Event (Occurrence) Review Groups.
- Support the tracking and monitoring of investigation recommendations and actions.
- Provide Safety Investigation inputs and metrics into the relevant Safety Action Groups.
- Support the ongoing development of C-17 BowTies risk management tool through the inputs from investigation outcomes.
- Support the development and sustainment of a strong Positive and Just Safety Culture within the UK C-17 programme.
- Support Safety communication briefs to management, leadership teams, and the workforce.
- Support the management of C-17 occurrence reports.
- Support the production of promotion campaigns and material based on investigation findings.
- Support the facilitation of Hazard Working Groups to create and mature C-17 BowTies.
- Support continuous improvement of the C-17 SMS.
- Support the delivery of SMS training for all C-17 on-site staff.
Essential Competencies:
- Formal training in Investigation principles (e.g. MEDA, Baines Simmons, Cranfield 1-week course).
- Experience in leading Investigations using established investigation techniques and practices.
- Possess good communication skills with the ability to produce and deliver succinct presentations to Senior Management and the workforce.
- HNC (minimum) in Engineering or equivalent operator experience in flying or support to aviation activities such as maintenance.
- Experience in Just Culture methodology and application.
- Experience in using civil and/or military safety reporting tools.
- Have good technical and analytical acumen underpinned with good written skills.
- Have a good understanding of Military and Civilian aviation regulations and their application.
- The role will have significant UK MoD customer, supplier, and wider Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong-minded is essential.
Desirable Competencies/Qualifications:
- Experience with the use of common safety tools such as Risk Registers, BowTie including the use of Incident XP for safety investigation results.
- Aircraft maintenance/operational experience of no less than 5 years.
- Occurrence Review Group training and experience.
- Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching.
Work Authorisation:
This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom.
