Trust Specialist Registrar Doctor in Oncology

A full time post as a Specialist Registrar in Oncology is available now at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust based at Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow. The post specialises in management of patients on the chemotherapy day treatment, acute oncology and outpatient clinics supporting palliative chemotherapy. This post will be a 1 year fixed term position.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will work across a number of tumour sites allowing them to develop experience in specific tumour sites alongside the consultant specialists. Previous oncology experience is required as there is a requirement to complete chemotherapy prescribing SOPs with sign off for independent prescribing.

The post-holder will be expected to have current experience in these areas. The post-holder will join active clinical teams in the Cancer and Haematology Centre and participate in governance and audit of clinical services. There will be opportunity for further training and career development relevant to the role. The post will contribute to management of patients on NCRI and other late phase clinical trials, and so it is desirable that the post-holder has appropriate clinical trial related experience.

Job responsibilities

The Trust has two tertiary referral centres for complex colorectal cancer and head and neck cancers. We work collaboratively with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as a specialist surgical and oncology centre and with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. All radiotherapy takes place at these centres.

We have a very busy chemotherapy unit at Northwick Park hospital for Haematological and solid tumours, where there are plans to expand to deliver capacity for the rising demand and to repatriate patients to provide treatment closer-to-home. There are also plans within the Trust and as part of Shaping a Healthier Future to establish a chemotherapy unit at Ealing Hospital.

The Trust has a busy level 3 Haemato-oncology service which is well recognised across London for its excellent clinical outcomes and approach to Clinical Research and Education, embedded in clinical practice. We also provide a level 1 POSCU service.

As an NIHR-badged Haemato-oncology Research Unit, a large proportion of patients are partaking in Clinical Trials, with a positive approach to research across all disciplines involved (Haematology, Colorectal, breast, urology, ENT). We are supported by a highly commended and innovative pharmacy team and have a large chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition manufacturing units on site at NPH.

Cancer services across all cancer specialties are fortunate to have a very strong cancer clinical nurse specialist (CNS) workforce, which is supported by Macmillan.
