Job Summary

Full time (9am to 5pm) appointment working with the Care of the Elderly team. Working with the Specialty Doctors they will ensure cover is provided for general inpatients on general Care of the Elderly ward which are all well staffed with daily consultant ward rounds and other junior doctor support.

Main Duties of the Job

Helping organise the consultant ward round, review sick patients, patients fit for discharge, leading the MDT in consultant absence from the ward and providing middle grade cover to junior doctors within care of elderly medicine.

Job Responsibilities

Main duties are to provide middle grade cover to a busy care of elderly ward, to help support / teach junior doctors, help lead the MDT and support the consultant in their ward round. To liaise with MDT staff and perform family meetings and updates.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications:

  • Eligible for GMC registration to cover the scope of employment
  • Satisfactory completion of FH01 and FH02 (or equivalent certified evidence of competence) at the time of taking up post
  • MRCP Part 1 + 2

Knowledge:

  • Keeps professional knowledge and skills up to date
  • Potential to benefit from the training available ie fits with career aspirations

Experience:

  • Competent in basic procedures (which may be post specific) eg CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc
  • Able to prioritize clinical need
  • Understands current clinical issues in specialty
  • Aware of own limitations and knows when to ask for help from senior colleagues
  • Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
  • Understands the need for and appreciates the role of audit in clinical practice
  • Understands the principles of clinical governance - ensures patients are not put at risk
