Summary

We are recruiting for a Treasury Controller to join our busy Treasury team. M&S is an iconic UK retailer with turnover of 13bn. Treasury is a critical function within our head office, responsible for funding and handling financial risk for the group including interest rate, foreign exchange and energy exposures.

Working closely with the Group Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer, this is a varied position with a leadership role in the reporting of Treasury activities both internally and externally.

You'll ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements, lead Treasury engagement with the auditors, as well as critical analysis of the impact of new projects from accounting, operational and policy perspectives.

This role can be based either from our Salford Quays or London Paddington locations and we would consider part-time applicants as well as full-time for this role.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.

What you'll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the delivery of Treasury reporting as part of the full year, half year results processes. This includes liaison with auditors, Treasury Balance Sheet Review, Review of the implication of changes in accounting standards on Treasury reporting and Leading delivery of the monthly reporting processes including interest analysis and management accounts reports.
  • Ensuring awareness and compliance with treasury policies and managing reporting of compliance issues within the control governance framework, and ensuring use of best practice across Treasury in technical matters such as derivative valuation.
  • Lead treasury activity around intercompany funding structures including: Ensuring appropriate intercompany funding arrangements are in place, and Identifying opportunities to upstream cash either via dividends or intercompany loans.
  • Interest Budget & Forecasting; Develop the Treasury interest budget and forecasts. Perform scenario/sensitivity analysis to explain key risks within the forecast, and Monitor variances to outturn.
  • Treasury Operations; liaising with Treasury operational stakeholders within the business on operational matters such as supply chain, and identifying opportunities to optimise the use of Treasury systems to enhance control and efficiency.

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Qualified accountant with experience of accounting and valuation for treasury instruments.
  • Treasury qualification desirable.
  • Excellent relationship management capabilities - able to build and maintain both internal and external partner relationships.
  • Experience in managing and developing junior team members.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, and TMS, FXAll, SAP and online payment platform knowledge is desirable.
