An established industry player is seeking a committed Treasurer to oversee financial management and reporting. This vital volunteer role involves ensuring compliance with charity regulations, contributing to strategic planning, and supporting the charity's mission to assist vulnerable children and young people. By applying your financial expertise, you will help maintain the charity's financial sustainability and influence its future development. Join a diverse Board of Trustees and make a meaningful impact in your community while gaining valuable governance experience.
What will you be doing?
As Treasurer, your role will involve developing a strong oversight of the charity’s finances and ensuring that all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and in compliance with legal requirements. You will contribute to the ongoing delivery and future development of the charity by ensuring sound financial management, enabling HCYC to continue its important work.
Board meetings are held every three months, lasting approximately two hours, and take place on weekdays between 9 am and 6 pm at The Symington Building in Market Harborough. All trustees, including the Treasurer, are expected to attend each meeting to hear updates from senior staff, approve the charity's work, and influence its future development. There may also be additional opportunities for the Treasurer to be involved in specific financial tasks or subcommittees, depending on the charity's needs.
Treasurer Description
We are looking for a volunteer with strong financial skills and experience in managing accounts, financial reporting, or auditing, ideally within the charity sector. The Treasurer will play a crucial role in ensuring that HCYC’s financial activities are well-managed and compliant with relevant laws and guidelines.
Key skills we are looking for include:
Even if you have not worked directly in the charity sector before, we welcome applications from those with financial expertise who share our passion for supporting vulnerable and isolated children and young people.
What are we looking for?
As a trustee, you will also be expected to follow the Nolan Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.
We welcome people from a range of backgrounds and experiences and aim to maintain a diverse Board of Trustees that is representative of the different communities we support. Trustees must be 18 years or over.
What difference will you make?
The charity cannot operate without sound financial oversight, and the Treasurer plays a vital role in ensuring HCYC’s resources are managed effectively. Your involvement will help the charity maintain its financial sustainability, allowing us to continue delivering services to vulnerable and isolated children and young people.
Your financial expertise will provide essential support to the senior staff and Board, helping to guide decisions on budgeting, funding, and resource allocation, and ensuring the charity operates in line with financial regulations.
What’s in it for you?
Being a charity Treasurer offers several benefits:
Before you apply
HCYC has a Trustee Recruitment Process in place. Initial interest will result in a request to complete an application form or send a CV, followed by an informal meeting with a senior staff member and the current Chair of Trustees, and a guest attendance at a Board meeting.
Appropriate documents will be provided to increase understanding of both the charity and the role.
Potential trustees complete a skills audit form, provide two referees, have a DBS check, and sign an eligibility declaration.
