Salary Range: Band 10 £40,220 - £44,428 p.a.

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term for 2 years

With Portsmouth forecast to have over 38,000 electric vehicles by 2034, the council needs to plan for the city's electric vehicle future. Portsmouth City Council have been allocated £3.682m from Government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund (LEVI) to deliver new charging infrastructure to meet the forecast demand.

There is a very exciting opportunity to join the established team in project managing delivery of the next phases of charge points, supporting residents to charge their electric vehicles (EVs) even if they don't have off-street parking.

Your new role

The Transport Planning Team is looking to recruit expertise in project management to enable delivery of a programme of strategic and high-profile projects particularly in the field of electric vehicle infrastructure.

We are seeking a Project Manager to take ownership of and manage the full lifecycle of transport projects, ensuring successful delivery within the agreed time, cost, and quality tolerances, while aiming to exceed stakeholder expectations. The role requires managing projects that are complex in nature or involve the introduction of new technology or business tools.

The Project Manager will facilitate effective progress reporting to the Project Board, Programme Manager, and Senior User(s), ensuring that issues are escalated through the appropriate approvals, gateways and management stages, with proactive identification of risks and proposed solutions.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have a recognised project management qualification or demonstrable equivalent project management experience. You will be able to demonstrate effective delivery of the project lifecycle from brief through to closure.

You will have excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively present project information, articulate key decisions, and manage stakeholder expectations. You will able be able to write structured and clear reports.

You will be able to manage multi-disciplinary teams and contractors and have experience leading diverse consultant teams and procuring contractors, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly defined. You will have experience in managing and operating large, complex budgets, track financial performance and ensure regular financial appraisals, keeping the project within budget constraints.

Expertise in delivering transport projects is desirable, but not essential.

The role is offered with hybrid working, but all staff are contractually required to spend a minimum of two days in the office.
