Transport Operations Manager

MUST HAVE knowledge of the Airfreight distribution sector.

We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Operations Manager to join a leading Blue-Chip Airfreight Transport operation based at Heathrow.

The successful Transport Operations Manager will manage a team of 5/6 and circa 40 trucks.

Reporting directly to the UK Transport Manager, the Transport Operations Manager will be the first point of contact for Customers and main hauliers, with a strong focus on planning, customer satisfaction, communication and overall responsibility for Transport operations.

Principal Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for ensuring a coherent interface between every area of the operation to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Motivate and develop planners to equip them with the skills to manage their teams of drivers.
  3. Ensure compliance with all Transport legislations and Health & Safety requirements.
  4. Be responsible for communication throughout the transport operation.
  5. Propose and implement changes to the operation to improve efficiency and/or levels of performance.
  6. Ensure a secure and safe environment for team members and assets.
  7. Achieve efficiency through managing planning & controlling staff on a daily basis, and an ongoing basis through objectives.
  8. Manage a team of c.80 drivers, along with planning teams.
  9. Ensuring key performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved, including compliance, service and financial targets.
  10. Ensuring compliance with statutory and Company safety standards.
Person Specification
  1. 5+ years transport management experience in a multi-site environment.
  2. Good working knowledge of the Airfreight distribution sector.
  3. An effective communicator at all levels with the personal motivation and confidence to have a positive impact throughout the group. Significant experience of developing teams within a similar logistics operation would be desirable.
  4. Professional, approachable and helpful to ensure smooth running of the general operation.
  5. Confident Manager, skilled at setting clear objectives and motivating teams.
  6. Highly tolerant of change, being able to work with an evolving organisation.
  7. Able to thrive in a highly competitive and demanding environment.
  8. Able to work efficiently across the business and functional boundaries.
  9. Commercially focussed.
  10. Quality orientated and customer service driven.
  11. National/International CPC holder (Essential).
Annual Salary £50,000.00 negotiable for the right candidate.
