About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Transport Manager to lead operations for a leading fuel distributor in Maidstone. You will be responsible for managing a team of 11 drivers and overseeing a mixed fleet of rigid tankers and articulated vehicles, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of fuel products.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day routing and scheduling of fuel deliveries, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
- Ensure all transport activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain high levels of service delivery and operational performance.
- Work closely with customers and internal teams to meet service requirements.
Driver & Fleet Management
- Lead and manage a team of 11 drivers, ensuring high performance and engagement.
- Oversee driver recruitment, training, and development, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Ensure drivers are fully briefed and debriefed in line with operational procedures.
- Manage driver holidays, absence, and disciplinary procedures.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence regulations and DVSA requirements.
- Ensure all vehicles are available for scheduled maintenance and inspections.
- Monitor driver hours, tachograph compliance, and Working Time Directive adherence.
- Investigate and manage incidents, accidents, and near-misses, implementing corrective actions.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Track and analyse key transport KPIs, identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide weekly and monthly reports on fleet performance and fuel stock levels.
- Manage fuel stock levels and depot fuel storage compliance.
- Work closely with senior management to implement operational improvements.
Requirements
- CPC Transport Manager Qualification (essential)
- Proven experience in fuel distribution or tanker logistics (desirable)
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing drivers and transport teams
- Excellent knowledge of compliance and O-Licence requirements
- Ability to optimise fleet efficiency and drive cost savings
- Strong IT skills, with experience using transport management systems (TMS)
