To report and assist the Transport Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Courier Service across UHS Sussex. Providing a safe and reliable service to the Trust.
You will be expected to give cover to ensure that all courier routes are covered with a service that meets and exceeds the needs of the Trust and its customers.
You will work closely with all the Transport teams across multiple sites to ensure staff rotas are fulfilled and back fill any absent drivers.
You will have experience of being a team leader who has already built-up relevant knowledge within a Transport and service environment or similar.
Main duties of the job
- Assist the Transport Manager with day-to-day operational issues, to ensure the smooth running of the Transport courier service.
- First aider.
- Staff training, including on-the-job training and health and safety training.
- Ensure that Fire, Health and Safety Legislation, policies and procedures are adhered to, and a culture of safe working is promoted, ensuring the correct use of PPE.
- Ensure that excellent patient first service is maintained by ensuring routes are completed on time.
- Review the performance of the team and identify, influence and implement training and development needs, whilst acting as a mentor.
- Develop a culture of team working across all functional areas of the district transport and between shifts and sites.
- Ensure that the Management Team are advised and informed of operational issues as appropriate.
- Responsible for supervising all courier drivers within your remit including welfare issues, always complying with the relevant legislation.
- Review, monitor and maintain systems to monitor overall staff productivity and performance.
- Responsible for general cleanliness and other housekeeping duties including the outside yard area.
- Adhere to strictest confidentiality standards with regards to all Trust financial, salary and HR matters.
- Ensure staff are correctly paid and have a good understanding of staff Heath Roster, EOL systems.
- Ensure that there is consistent fairness of staff rotation.

Job responsibilities

- Hold weekly staff huddles with the teams and report back to the Transport Manager.
- Carry out accident and disciplinary investigations.
- Work to Trust KPIs.
- Provide cover for pre-planned and unplanned holiday and sickness for the courier routes at both Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.
- Admin duties as and when requested by the Transport Manager.
- Interact with Pathology teams to ensure a good working relationship is in force.
- Ensure a good working relationship across sites is maintained.
- Attend regular training sessions.
- Supervising time-sensitive routes.
- Train staff.
- Minimize the use of bank and agency staff.
- Perform other reasonable duties not normally associated with your role as requested from the Transport Manager.
- Work with the Fleet Manager to ensure vehicles are running to their optimum performance.
- Challenge non-compliance and performance with staff.
- Conduct weekly quality and accuracy spot checks on behalf of the Transport Manager.
- Adhere to domestic rules of transport.
- Constantly monitor and record driver's hours.
- Hold a good knowledge of the WTD hours.
- Hold good knowledge of all routes operating out of Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

Skills
- Good IT Skills.
- A good understanding of Transport Compliance.
- Experience with Driver's Hours.
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equality issues.

- Hold a Category D1 Licence.
- IOSH Managing Safety.
