The shift pattern for this position is Mon/Tue 20:00-06:00 Wed/Thurs 20:00-05:30.
Cowlairs CDU provides a full decontamination/sterilisation service to Theatres, Clinics and Community services within the Glasgow area of the Health Board. The unit reprocess, on average, 12 million reusable instruments per year. It will be a requirement of all post-holders to become multi-skilled in all zones of the CDU in order to satisfy all the requirements of the post. Once fully trained in all the zones of the CDU, staff will be rostered in such a way as to rotate through the various zones on a regular basis. The core activity of a decontamination unit is the decontamination, assembly, packaging and sterilisation of re-useable medical devices. The post holder will undertake all tasks appropriate to the grade of ATO Support Worker throughout all zones of the CDU and will be trained in all specialities to become an Assistant Technical Officer (ATO).
Decontamination of medical devices and instrument knowledge is essential as well as a good general education including literacy and numeracy skills together with manual dexterity desirable. Training will be provided in Decontamination/ Assembly/ Checking/ Packaging and Sterilisation, however knowledge of Decontamination is advantageous.
