We are currently recruiting for Trainee/Planner Cargo and Specialist Haulage to join our team in Southampton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Raise accurate quotes for loading and unloading of cargo and road transport to customers in a timely fashion to ensure profitability of the department.
  • Ensure all containers and cargo movements are correctly arranged and booked into and out of both internal and external systems ensuring costs are kept to a minimum.
  • Arrange with customers pick up and collection of equipment / cargo as required to complete the job.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of Cargo Handlers team in respect of loading and unloading cargo.
  • Ensure customer service levels with all customers are achieved to the minimum agreed targets, whilst maintaining close communication links at all times. Investigate anomalies, provide justification and escalate accordingly.
  • Be a point of contact for any cargo related / specialist haulage enquiries.
  • Obtaining and securing the best possible price for any purchases or service required.
  • Maintain and update any work in PDS / TOPS or other systems as required.
  • Finalize jobs on internal systems with revenue and costs to allow them to be processed for invoicing.
  • File documentation in a timely structured and methodical manner both on the system and hard copy.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous administration experience
  • Previous experience of shipping lines, port operations, haulage and /or container operations.
  • Knowledge of Road Haulage.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Flexibility with working hours.
  • A strong team player, encouraging a team working environment with the commitment to drive and support others as required.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure, whilst making key decisions.
  • A working knowledge of PC applications; Microsoft and Outlook.
  • A working knowledge of TOPS, Port Container Systems for VBS booking – advantageous but not essential.
