Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the gynaecology outpatients team and train to become a Nurse Colposcopist at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust (CHFT). We are looking for an experienced registered nurse that is enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate with excellent communication skills. They should have a keen interest in women's health and expansive gynaecology experience.

This developmental role will help you gain the knowledge and skills to work across all of the Women's Services provided at Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust and to gain qualification as a Nurse Colposcopist. Upon qualification, the pay band will rise from band 6 to band 7. This role will involve weekend working.

Advert
The successful candidate will attend the accredited BSCCP colposcopy course and complete the required academic and practical competencies, culminating in an OSCE, it is expected that this would be completed in 12-18 months.

You will be required to consult with service users and take a comprehensive history.

You will be computer literate enabling you to complete the colposcopy database following each consultation and complete all relevant documentation.

As a Trainee Nurse Colposcopist you will learn to diagnose and treat abnormalities of the cervix through biopsy, LLETZ procedure and cryotherapy.

You will follow national guidelines in follow up and discharge of service users.

You will attend and implement outcomes of gynae and colposcopy MDT meetings and work closely with the following disciplines:

  • Women's unit nursing and non-registered staff

  • CSPL
  • Consultant and medical colleagues
  • Clinical director obstetrics and Gynaecology

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic and treatment procedures as appropriate, informing patients of additional investigations and follow up needs.
Requesting further investigations as clinically indicated.
Exercise professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families and carers.
Assess patient suitability for procedure to be undertaken by a Nurse Colposcopist.
To take responsibility for the patient undergoing colposcopic procedures, administering local anaesthetic as required via an agreed PGD or as an independent non-medical prescriber in accordance with the BSCCP and trust guidelines.
Ensure compliance with their respective code of professional conduct (NMC) and work within their scope of practice.
To be responsible for recording and reporting all clinical findings, in a timely manner, including follow up, referral and pathways.
Works in conjunction with the MDT to clearly define values, direction and policies impacting upon care.
Work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate.
