Job description

With 24 years of leading industry experience, SMS Environmental, a leading water treatment and air quality management company specialising in Legionella control, ranks within the top 5% of water treatment providers within the UK.

Due to exciting company growth, we are now looking for a Legionella Risk Assessor to join our growing team. You will help to deliver water system surveys and risk assessments to a variety of community-based customers, working across a wide range of building types including individual residences, small offices, large schools, commercial properties, care homes, and healthcare facilities. These roles are field-based, and regular travel will be a core part of the role across the central belt of Scotland.

Under supervision until internal and external training have been completed and the job holder signed off as competent, you will:

  1. Execute on-site work in conjunction with SMS Method Statement
  2. Enforce Health & Safety practices on-site
  3. Problem solve and diagnose faults within plumbing systems
  4. Execute work in conjunction with IT systems
  5. Conduct risk assessments of hot and cold water systems within various types of buildings (including spas and cooling towers if competent to do so)
  6. Carry out risk assessments to UKAS 17020 standards, ACoP L8, BS8580, MS80, and any appropriate method statement
  7. Assist with maintenance work where no conflict of interest arises
  8. Correspond with the Schematic Coordinator, Formatter, and Quality Assurance Officer to ensure risk assessments are accurate and of high quality

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Previous experience in the water hygiene industry is essential
  2. Experience of conducting Legionella risk assessments is beneficial, although the induction period will cover adequate training as detailed in HR57
  3. Good people skills
  4. Driving licence required
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with clients
  6. Attention to detail

Education and Qualifications:

  1. GCSE (or equivalent)
  2. Technical knowledge of the water hygiene industry
  3. Health & Safety knowledge
  4. Approved Legionella Risk Assessor Qualification as detailed in HR57 or willingness to undertake qualification
