Job Description:

Our client is a leading international energy commodities firm, and this role is based in the London office.

The successful candidate will be working very closely with the commercial teams and support functions (Scheduling, Market Risk, Product control, Compliance, etc.). The role is also heavily focused on process improvement and support of strategic and tactical technology changes and offers good exposure to energy commodity trading in a very dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily validation of exchange positions across exchanges, predominantly in oil, gas, and power products.
  • Manage futures and options expiration activities and associated physical delivery.
  • Collateral management including settlement of daily margin calls, margin analysis, optimization, and stress testing.
  • Processing, reconciliation, and settlement of transaction costs, including brokerage, identifying, and implementing opportunities to reduce cost.
  • Ensuring all entries within the trading book are correct and verified against ICE, CME, etc.
  • Partnering with Traders, Exchanges, Clearing Brokers, and cross-functional businesses (Compliance, P&L, IT, Reference Data) to onboard new trading desks and platforms.
  • Reporting listed options and futures expiries to the Trading desks and Middle Office.
  • Providing ongoing support and communication to traders regarding market access, trade execution, and operational processes.
  • Collaborating with exchanges and clearing brokers on product enablement and compliance items to ensure smooth trading operations.
  • Daily position management, including monitoring and reporting of key metrics related to trading activities and performance.
  • Supporting the physical delivery of futures and options, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Assisting in the management and reporting of costs and fees related to exchange business, identifying areas for improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Engaging with external vendors and stakeholders to enhance trade execution platform support and resolve any operational issues.
  • Participating in ad-hoc projects which include new business implementation, system improvements, change management, and efficiency/cost-saving initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field of study.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in commodity trading, preferably in an area covering exchange traded derivatives.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a high intensity environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and numerical skills; ability to seek information and interpret data from multiple sources in order to resolve problems or implement new processes.
  • Strong technical skills – Python, SQL, VBA highly preferred.
  • Highest level of ownership and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to work in a team-centred environment.
