Job DescriptionTown Planner / Planning Consultant Job in London

Town Planner / Planning Consultant job available in London with a highly regarded and leading architectural practice. Seeking an experienced Town Planner who is looking for a varied and strategic role with a practice that boasts an unrivalled portfolio of projects. Offering a salary of up to £55,000 plus benefits and hybrid flexibility.

With decades of experience, this firm has built a strong reputation in traditional architecture and urban design. Its diverse portfolio includes everything from sensitively restored heritage properties to distinctive new homes. The practice is also increasingly involved in urban projects that focus on integrating developments within their surroundings. Client goals and visions remain central to every project, shaping both the approach and final outcome. The firm fosters a collaborative environment, encouraging its team to push the boundaries of both the theory and application of traditional architectural principles. The position is open to both London or Winchester locations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit planning applications and appeals, including managing the pre-application process and planning notes on land and buildings
  • Provide guidance on local and planning frameworks
  • Provide strategic advice on planning framework and law, developing strategies for approval of sensitive projects
  • Coordinate the preparation of Planning Statements, Design and Access Statements, and contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
  • Manage the preparation of supporting documents for development and infrastructure schemes, including Development Consent Orders
  • Assist clients with the planning process and provide solutions to overcome planning challenges
  • Negotiate with local authorities and key stakeholders
  • Provide strategies to internal teams and be a primary point of contact for planning related matters.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience, private or public sector
  • Proven background working on a variety of projects including historical/listed buildings and sensitive projects
  • Experience with projects across London and Hampshire, ideally with relationships in both locations
  • Client-facing experience and strong communication skills
  • Ideally degree qualified in town planning, urban design, or similar
  • MRTPI / MRICS, but not essential.

What you get back

  • Salary of £40,000 - £55,000
  • 21 days of holiday, plus bank holidays and discretionary leave over Christmas
