The Primary Care division of DCC Healthcare has revenues of c.£150m in the German, Swiss and British markets enabled through its own commercial teams. High quality medical and diagnostic products are supplied for use in primary care, laboratory, and blue light settings. The division employs approximately 425 people in 3 countries.

Primary Care UK – consists of Williams Medical (https://www.wms.co.uk/) with revenues of c.£60M and SP Services (https://www.spservices.co.uk/) with revenues of c.£10M both specialise in providing a wide range of medical, healthcare products and equipment to healthcare professionals and organisations. Primary Care UK employs approximately 200 people across two purpose built facilities one in Telford, West Midlands England and one in Rhymney, South Wales.

Role Summary

To lead and optimise the businesses’ Procurement function. Taking a strategic approach, embedding an agile stock management strategy that supports long term sustainable organic and acquisitive growth within fast moving and dynamic UK & International healthcare markets.

Through the team, effectively maintain an ordering and stock flow pattern that provides sufficient availability for a variable demand and lead-time product portfolio, meeting targets for product availability and stock holding value.

Success in this role requires a combination of strategic and analytical thinking, effectively developing and communicating a strategy, and able to build support for that strategy within their team and in collaboration with other teams. Due to the complex nature of the function, the ideal candidate will also have a passion and competency mastering highly quantitative and analytical topics, as well as extensive operations experience, preferably in supply chain or demand & inventory planning roles. This person will effectively blend analytical thinking and creative problem solving; be a highly effective leader and communicator; and enjoy tackling important, complex, and challenging situations.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility is stock availability, ensuring high levels of OTIF for all suppliers.
  • Oversee the development of world-class technical and team capabilities in areas related to inventory planning and management (e.g. forecasting, planning, order generation, routing and positioning, and management of on-hand inventory).
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Category Management, Sales and other teams that are involved in driving supplier, item selection and demand generation.
  • Comfortable with core demand & inventory planning concepts such as: Sales forecast approaches (trend, seasonality, etc), forecast accuracy metrics (MAPE, Bias), safety stock and service level settings, continuous & periodic replenishment models, economic order quantities, demand pooling, and velocity management for high SKU, high turn category environments.
  • Create and drive department KPI’s.
  • Drive improvements and projects through the team to achieve / exceed department and business initiatives.
  • Production of stock forecast and co-ordinating team to achieve monthly stock targets.
  • Maintain targeted stock value to target.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the team in the running of Requisition reports for all product categories ensuring all products are ordered when required.
  • Keeping backorders within acceptable tolerances with relevant suppliers each week. Ensuring the team expedite where required, keeping past due dates to a minimum and ensuring stock is then delivered.
  • Help smooth out deliveries in from Suppliers to aid in the goods in operation via Goods inwards calendar and confirmed portal dates from your suppliers.
  • Participate in supplier visits both onsite and offsite with your manager, and look to build a solid working relationship with your relevant supplier contact(s) while working together to improve their OTIF score to the required target of 95%.

Experience And Skills Requirements
  • Demonstratable experience in Inventory planning, Operational or Supply chain roles.
  • Stock Merchandising experience/understanding is desirable.
  • Understanding of various ERP platforms specifically SAP.
  • Experience of collating, analysing and validating forecasts – creating a smooth demand and stock intake profile.
  • Hands on exposure to detailed demand planning.
  • Experience of managing effective kitting operations to meet customer demands.
