Hours Per Week: 4-10
Duration of Appointment: Fall, Spring

Work Schedule:
Shop hours are between 1pm-4pm with occasional hours outside of this time. Student’s work schedule is based on availability and scene shop needs.

Position Description

Position Summary:
Theatre workers are responsible for aiding in the construction and the maintenance of various technical aspects in relation to all department season events as well as maintaining the cleanliness, safety and functionality of all workshops, storage areas and equipment.

Major Preferred

Theatre, Art and Engineering, but all majors are welcome to apply.

Experience Required
  • A general interest in the arts and technical theatre
  • Willingness to work with various power tools and electric sewing machines
  • Working in a team setting
Experience Preferred
  • Successful completion of Intro to Tech Theatre THEA150 a plus but not required
  • Working knowledge of power tools a plus, but not required
  • Basic sewing skills a plus, but not required
Skills, Characteristics Required For Position
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
  • Must be flexible and able to take direction
  • Must have a willingness to learn and adapt on your feet
  • Must have the ability to work well on your own, as well as with other students and designers
  • Ability to take initiative, self-motivation, common sense, and creativity are desirable qualities for the position
  • If a licensed driver, must become certified to drive campus vehicles and pass 15 passenger van test unless otherwise discussed with supervisor
Dress Code Requirements

Closed toed shoes, clothing that is able to get dirty as you will be working in an environment in which sawdust and paint are commonplace.

Special Working Conditions
  • Will be in an area where loud noises, dust & wood particulates are generated, proper safety equipment is provided
  • Availability for a minimum of 60min time blocks during daily shop hours (MTRF 2-5:30pm) is preferred
Primary Duties
  • Aiding in the implementation and construction of the technical designs for the Theatre Department’s production season
  • Maintain clean and safe working environments in the various workshops and performance spaces
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
  • Upkeep and general maintenance of shop and technical equipment in various workshops, performance spaces and storage spaces
Secondary Duties
  • Successful completion of all safety training
  • Other duties as assigned in relation to departmental functions
