Job description

About the role

The Bodleian Law Library is one of the largest academic law libraries in the country, providing services to readers from the University, wider academia, and the legal profession.

You will join the team that provides the Bodleian Law Library’s reading room services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Answering directional enquiries.
  2. Helping readers to use the online catalogue.
  3. Providing initial assistance with equipment, including printers and photocopiers.
  4. Issuing books and participating in book shelving and tidying duties.
  5. Showing new readers around the Library.
  6. Scanning, loose-leaf filing, and collecting statistics.
  7. Assisting in administering the inter-library loan service.

Training will be provided for these tasks if needed.

This is a permanent, part-time, term-time post.

Hours of work are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays 7pm – 10pm (9 working hours per week during the eight-week University term).

This role requires working at heights, regular manual handling, and some lone working – full training will be given.

About You

You will have:

  1. Good IT skills.
  2. A proven commitment to customer service.
  3. Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues.
  4. Attention to detail and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

Experience working in a library or similar setting is desirable. Good timekeeping is essential.

Salary: £25,381 to £26,400 (per annum, pro-rata).
