JOB TITLE: Temporary Part-Time Human Resources Assistant

Location: Main office, Brooklyn, NY

Exemption: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Part-time, 25 hours per week

Salary: $20 to $22 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

Employment Type: This is a temporary part-time position through June 30, 2025, with the potential to transition into a regular part-time role, depending on available resources and organizational needs.

Since 1978, we’ve been a key part of the Sunset Park community, offering a range of services that include family counseling, after-school programs, youth employment services, and emergency support for food, legal, and immigration needs. Our mission is to provide growth opportunities, strengthen families, and help young people develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Part-Time Human Resources Assistant to support our HR team with hiring, onboarding, and other HR-related tasks. In this role, you'll help post job openings, guide new hires through the onboarding process, complete background checks, and maintain personnel files. You’ll also assist with performance reviews, generate reports, and handle other administrative tasks to keep things running smoothly. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Onboarding
  1. Prepare and monitor online job postings
  2. Assist new hires in completing their onboarding tasks.
  3. Complete e-Verify for new and rehired employees.
  4. Review all documentation provided during the candidate onboarding process and conduct background checks.
Administrative Tasks
  1. Respond to HR-related questions from employees and external contacts
  2. Assist with preparing audit materials
  3. Generate reports on general HR activity
  4. Assist with tracking the completion of training and performance reviews
  5. Handle miscellaneous tasks and ad hoc requests to ensure smooth workflow
Payroll & Time Tracking
  1. Review employee timesheets for accuracy
  2. Contact supervisors for timesheet updates, submittals, and confirmations
AmeriCorps Program
  1. Assist the AmeriCorps Program Coordinator for Sunset Park Community Corps
  2. Support AmeriCorps members through orientation and placement
  3. Manage background checks, enrollment, time tracking, payroll, and contract completion
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED required
  2. Prior administrative experience is a plus
  3. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  4. Ability to handle confidential information with care
  5. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office tools
  7. Clear and professional communication skills
  8. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
SCHEDULE
