Temporary Assistant Librarian – London – Part-time 17.5 hours/wk

A specialist library in central London has a temporary job opportunity for an Assistant Librarian, to work on the collections and to help with the day-to-day operation of the library.

This is a 3-month contract with shifts from Wednesday to Saturdays during term time; with more flexibility across the week and no Saturdays outside of term time. The likely start date is early February.

The Temporary Assistant Librarian’s core activities include front-desk functions, processing off-site store requests, and providing support to extend the opening hours of the Library.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Assisting the Librarian with enquiries and requests
2. Dealing with library users, supervision of the reading room, and staffing the Library
3. Checking-in journal issues
4. Labelling new books and shelving books
5. Assisting with the Social Media activities of the Library
6. Potentially cataloguing books

Person Specification:

The successful applicant will have:

1. Experience of working in a library – this is essential
2. IT skills necessary in the role including the use of a Library Management System
3. Good people skills for working with colleagues, students, teachers, and researchers
4. Good organization and communication skills
5. Good time management skills
6. Some experience in working as part of a small team

This part-time, temporary job vacancy would suit an Assistant Librarian or Library Assistant who would like to work 17.5 hours per week, with the ability to work 4.5 hours on Saturdays during term time only, from 9.30 am to 2 pm.
