Tekla Detailer – Structural & Architectural Steelwork

About the company

We are a well-established steel frame building company specialising in design, fabrication, and erecting. We are currently expanding into other forms of fabrication projects that include Mezzanines, General Building Steels, Balustrades, Staircases, Handrails, and secondary steelwork. The design has always been externally provided, but due to the growth of the company, we are looking to invest in the right candidate to create an in-house design department working alongside external partners when required.

Job Overview

An excellent opportunity to be the principal designer for our steel fabrication company.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Producing GAs and fabrication drawings using CAD and Tekla software systems.
2. Producing a consistent design quality and compliant with UKCA accreditations.
3. Quantifying the materials required for each project and working with the purchasing team for purchase orders.
4. Communicating and assisting when required with the fabrication team regarding design and/or fabrication process.
5. Communicating and assisting when required with the erecting team regarding design and/or erecting process.
6. Exploring new opportunities for the business to grow in steel products.
7. Designing products to aid efficiencies across all sectors of the business.
8. Producing drawings to assist the installation of the final product.
9. General design office administration.

Requirements

1. Experience as an Advanced Steel / Tekla Draughtsman in structural and architectural steelwork is essential.
2. Experience in developing GAs and details for steelwork and metalwork from Architect/Engineers drawings and site measurements, and subsequent fabrication drawings.
3. Ability to work on your own initiative and liaise with all members within the business.
4. Good communication and organisational skills.
5. Computer literate and conversant with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
6. While not a requirement for the role, a time-served Fabricator/Welder with management experience would be ideal.
