About the role

If you're a Level 2 NVQ Trainee (Mechanical/Electrical) Technician, or someone looking to progress into heavy vehicles, then this opportunity just might be the right opportunity for you. We offer ongoing training and development into NVQ Level 3 and beyond, including IMI Level 3 HV training.

Your initial first 18 months would include ongoing project work on improving vehicle type reliability, and then moving on to NVQ Level 3 training with our training provider at Reaseheath College. To be considered for this position, a Cat B licence is essential; Cat D is preferred, but we will offer training for this.

The successful Trainee (Mechanical/Electrical) Technician will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Learn how to diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and parts replacement.
  2. Learn how to diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts to be used.
  3. Carry out vehicle servicing and routine vehicle examinations using handheld data capture devices if applicable.
  4. Carry out basic parts replacement in line with a structured project.
  5. Attend on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries with a senior member of the team.
  6. Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to identify specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair with a senior member of the team.

We'll provide your overalls and all the specialist tools and equipment needed.

Hourly pay rate: £15 p/h (paid on a weekly basis)

About you

  1. Minimum level 2 NVQ standard is essential.
  2. Do you hold a Cat B licence? (essential)
  3. PCV licence isn't essential, we can support you in gaining it.
  4. Do you hold a full UK drivers' licence? (essential)
  5. Are you experienced with or working towards being able to overhaul and repair vehicle systems including engines, automatic/semi-automatic gearboxes, drive trains, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, cooling systems and basic auto electrics?
  6. Are you experienced with or working towards being conversant with the safe operation of workshop equipment including brake rolling road testers, tracking gauges, hydraulic vehicle lifts, pressurised oil and waste systems, battery chargers and starters, trolley jacks, scaffolding, pressure wash and automatic washing equipment, digital smoke readers, headlamp alignment testers, hydraulic jacks and testing equipment, drilling machines, torque wrenches, pedestal grinders and general portable equipment (i.e. air guns, drills, electric and pneumatic hand tools)?
  7. Have you working experience with any relevant diagnostic equipment including hydraulic flow meters, air, and vacuum gauges, multi meters, temperature gauges, micrometres, Vernier gauges, engine and gearbox laptop testing equipment?
  8. Do you possess the basic skills in gas and electric welding, burning, and basic body repairs?
  9. You will need to attend vehicle manufacturer product training courses, DVSA vehicle inspection training and specialist vehicle recovery training as required, this may involve an overnight stay. Are you willing to go the extra mile to achieve your career goals?
