The role:

We are looking for the right individual to support our Engineering team in Cardiff. This role involves working on the company’s fleet of Wagons within a safety critical environment.

As a Technician A, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining and carrying out all designated engineering activities to include rail mounted gantry cranes and plant equipment, ensuring that business requirements and operational availability of assets are fully maximised.

Key responsibilities:

  • Organise and carry out the company’s programme of engineering examinations, maintenance events, fault finding, diagnostic checking and repairs of company assets in accordance with company maintenance instructions and procedures.
  • Take the lead role in the absence of Supervisor.
  • Lead and give guidance to others within the engineering workplace.
  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive recording of maintenance and defect/repair information and the parts used to ensure company records are completed and kept up to date in accordance with legislative requirements and company instructions.
  • Fully utilise available Freightliner IT systems relevant to the scope of your work.
  • Participate in the training and development of new recruits and apprentices.
  • Work flexibly within skill levels, training and competencies with no job restrictions and to give reasonable assistance with any task as directed.

About you:

  • Self-motivated person capable of working on own initiative.
  • Suitable qualifications and experience gained from an electrical apprenticeship or NVQ3 equivalent.
  • Must have DC motor and ABB drives experience.
  • Must have PLC experience – Siemens S7, CODESYS.
  • HV switching experience would be advantageous – 5500v and 6000v systems.
  • Mechanical skillset/ability would also be beneficial.
  • A good understanding of the requirements of Health and Safety legislation and be capable of independently managing the health and safety of self and others in the workplace.
