Eden Scott is proud to be supporting GreenPower with the appointment of a Technical Project Manager Hydrogen. GreenPower is a renewable energy company, developing, constructing, owning and operating wind, hydro, solar, and green hydrogen projects across the UK. Most assets are owned by GreenPower, with some projects jointly owned with investment funds, and others managed on behalf of third party clients.
Role and Responsibilities
The TPMH will be responsible for the following areas of work:
- The management of the design process for HPF including but not limited to:
- Undertaking preliminary in-house design of HPF.
- Design of ancillary and/or 'balance of plant' systems, including but not limited to:
- Grid connection
- Electrical design and optimization
- Storage and dispensing plant
- Integration with renewable energy generation plant
- The management of the tendering process for HPF projects including but not limited to:
- Establishment of the tender specification for project delivery.
- Establishment of comprehensive suite of contract documents.
- Administration of tender process for contractor engagement under a prime (for example FIDIC) structure or, alternatively, multi-sourcing.
- The management of the delivery process for HPF projects including but not limited to:
- Addressing all required planning and preparatory activities that ensure the smooth realization of the HPF plant including the establishment of:
- detailed scheduling of all activities to be performed during the construction phase and
- detailed responsibility matrix to effectively manage project interfaces;
- Checking and finalization of programme of works and identification of all external suppliers.
- Ensuring supervision, assisted by the external appointment of an Owner's Engineer, for all activities, monitoring and control of contractor & subcontractors;
- Ensuring continued supervision during all construction activities including but not limited to:
- Construction site organisation
- Civil works
- Mechanical installation
- Ancillary works
- Grid connection & on-site electrical works
- Reporting on project progress, both through written status reports and presentations at project meetings.
- Providing support to development project managers providing design and other technical information to support the development of HPF projects and the planning process;
- Coordinating with in-house technical/analytical colleagues and support the Director of Engineering to help ensure resources are available to support the efficient design, development and delivery of projects.
- Assist the Director of Engineering in the identification of staff training needs, for example for HPF design skills, and providing in-house guidance as mentor to junior staff in the technical/analytical group to support their personal development.
Whilst a significant amount of the work will be desk-based, you will be required to undertake site visits and attend meetings which will include overnight stays and travel both within the UK and, occasionally, overseas. The job will also entail various other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required from time to time as directed by your line manager.
About You
We need an experienced professional engineering/technical manager who will thrive in a dynamic environment, working well under pressure with a keen desire to learn and broaden their experience. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of the design & management of HPF schemes along with knowledge of the corresponding development and planning processes. The successful candidate will have the ability to take a lead role in the assessment of candidate HPF sites and will provide technical information to support development managers through to the pre-construction phase. The candidate will have managed the transition of HPF schemes into their construction phases and will have a good grasp of what resources must be coordinated for delivery, including internal resource, external advisory resource and contractor(s).
Essential Criteria:
Required (candidates must meet these criteria to be considered):
- Degree in a relevant discipline: renewables engineering and/or related specialism.
- Understanding of the Hydrogen and industrial gases industry.
- Track record of the conceptual design & the management of the delivery of HPF schemes with similar experience with regard to associated storage being an advantage.
- Understanding of how the environmental, technical, and commercial aspects of HPF projects interact.
- Understanding of project management processes, including planning, budget control and reporting.
- Understanding of the contractual process for tendering and project delivery and familiarity with at least one industry-standard form of contract.
- Understanding the role of safety in project design and implementation and how the obligations of the CDM regulations can be met in practice.
- UK driving licence
Desirable Criteria:
- Wider knowledge of the renewable energy sector and, specifically, other generating technologies such as wind.
- Experience of Hydrogen storage and dispensing systems (design and/or implementation).
Candidates should also have the following personal attributes and general aptitude:
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient use of Windows based IT systems and basic office software such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and PowerPoint.
- Ability to be self-motivated but a strong collaborator within a team environment.
- Ability to prioritise work, set and meet targets, and manage time effectively.
- Smart, professional appearance at all times.
- An eye for detail and precision.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn and engage in other areas of the business.
Terms and Conditions
Salary:
Negotiable, depending on experience
Contracted Hours:
37.5 hours per week
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
From time to time, you may be required to work outwith and/or in excess of your normal working hours. Remuneration for such additional hours is already contained within the salary.
Location of Work:
This post will be based at the e-Centre, Cooperage Way, Alloa, FK10 3LP. GreenPower operates a hybrid working policy, minimum 2-3 days in the office per week.
Travel, principally between the Alloa office base and various sites in the UK is required. The nature of this post will require staying away from home on occasions.
Annual Leave:
This post carries a holiday entitlement of 25 days personal leave, plus 12 statutory holidays/office closure days per annum.
