This Technical Project Manager will be part of the BBC EUT / Networks Projects Team. You will be working with a business or product owner to deliver one or more technology projects; delivering expected outcomes and meeting stakeholder expectations within the brief and constraints of time, cost, scope and quality. You will be applying the most appropriate project delivery methodology as needed to deliver a successful outcome. Projects may stand alone, or be part of a programme.
This role will be implementing delivery in line with technology strategy and direction from managers. You will be managing stakeholders' expectations and facilitate discussions in situations characterised by risk, complexity, and constrained timescales.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Manage one or more technology projects, or a workstream within a programme, to deliver the agreed outputs, outcomes and benefits within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints.
- Apply the most appropriate project delivery methodology as needed to deliver a successful outcome.
- Establish appropriate project governance, maintaining project delivery momentum with clear status reporting and proactive management of issues, risks and dependencies.
- Ensure a project plan is in place, including deliverables/outputs defined against clearly articulated outcomes. Ensure plans are visible, actively communicated and understood by project team members, external/3rd party suppliers & key stakeholders.
- Create a collaborative project team environment where strong open communication and continuous improvement are embedded into the delivery.
A typical scale of project delivery responsibility for a Technical Project Manager role would take into consideration:
(1) project budget (2) size of project team (3) complexity (4) stakeholders (5) management of external suppliers/3rd parties.
Typical indicators for a Technical Project Manager are:
- Financial or allocated staff responsibility equivalent to budget of up to c. £2m and a staffing level of 6+ (including third parties).
- A duration of approx. 6-18 months
- Project with multiple stakeholders
- External /3rd party suppliers (e.g. technology or software suppliers, systems integrators)
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
We want to set you up for success in this role. For this role the right person will need:
- Delivery knowledge and practice - known for knowledge and experience of delivery practices.
- Specialism in one or both of the following areas: Agile, Waterfall. Known for delivery in ambiguous, fast-changing and complex environments.
- A good understanding of appropriate internal contacts and processes (e.g. procurement) within the BBC. You can manage suppliers to deliver successful outcomes and ensure value for money.
- Communication skills - you can communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
- Good financial management - you can manage budget(s) within the constraints of the project.
- Maintaining delivery momentum - You know how to drive teams and set the pace, ensuring teams are working towards defined outcomes.
- Team dynamics and collaboration - you know how to bring people together to form a motivated team.
- Demonstrable professional development with a recognised project management qualification or equal experience (e.g. PRINCE2, APM PMQ, Agile certification).
