Technical Officer/Environmental Health Officer (Food, Health and Safety) – closing date 26.03.2025
Salary up to £45,117 pa depending on skills and experience. Plus lease car subsidy or cash alternative of up to £3,050 pa
1 x Permanent – Full time – 37 hours

1 x Fixed term contract for 1 year
Location: Ashford, Kent, TN23

Ashford Borough Council is looking for an Environmental Health Officer to work in the Food and Health & Safety Team. You will undertake pro-active interventions; investigate and respond to complaints and enquiries and support or lead Food Hygiene training.

You will be expected to work across all aspects of the team’s work which includes Food Hygiene, Infectious Disease control, Health and Safety, Public Health and work associated with registrations and enquiries for the Beauty Sector. Specific duties will be around:

  1. Undertaking food safety and Health and Safety inspections and service requests in commercial premises.
  2. Undertaking infectious disease investigations including outbreaks.
  3. Food sampling.
  4. Providing occasional support to the Private Sector Housing and Environmental Protection & Licensing teams.
  5. Investigating and preparing reports for enforcement and prosecution.

We want the right individual to join our small but busy team to help make a real difference to the residents of Ashford. You will need to be flexible over the duties you are assigned, keen to develop and enjoy working as part of a team.

In order to be competent in this role you will need to have relevant qualification(s) to undertake food safety controls as defined by the FSA Food Law Code of Practice and the accompanying Practice Guidance along with having:

  1. Experience working within Environmental Health and undertaking enforcement action.
  2. Confidence in dealing with the public.
  3. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  4. Good report writing skills.
  5. Ability to make reasoned decisions.

You will be working in a highly respected team. Self-motivation, professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm are essential. You will need a full UK driving licence and access to a car while at work.
