Technical Manager, Communication Technology (Electronics/RF/Radio) vacancy in Hertfordshire (263lw)

Our client, a leader in innovative Communication Technology, is seeking an Electrical/Electronic Engineer/Technical Manager to act as the Subject Matter Expert for their products and solutions.

This person will become the Senior Technical Manager's proxy and will be the first point of contact for Production in the introduction of new products, improvements, changes in build or configuration, quality assurance, etc.

Depending on experience, this can either be an Assistant Technical Manager OR a Technical (Product) Manager. A varied role which requires both deep electronics/electrical engineering knowledge as well as people-management experience, as you will also supervise the small Production Department. Client would welcome Service Leavers (requires experience in hand-held radios).

Responsibilities include

  1. Own the interface between the Technical & Operations Departments, ensuring successful integration of technical improvements, new products, programming updates, etc., into Production.
  2. Assist the Senior Technical Manager with all new software and hardware products to be operationally assessed as part of the technical sign-off procedure.
  3. Creation, delivery, and control of technical documentation and procedures.
  4. Regular review of production processes, identifying and implementing improvements to increase efficiency, improve productivity, and reduce waste.
  5. Management and technical direction/investigation of supplier/manufacturer and internal technical non-conformance issues.
  6. Perform regular inspections and assessments to ensure quality control/assurance standards are met.
  7. Provide in-house technical support for Sales, Marketing, 2nd-line Technical Support, Field Engineers, and Production.
  8. Monitor the technical skillset and knowledge of the Production Technicians, defining and delivering training to improve technical understanding and introduce new products.
  9. Product and systems testing in-house using software test tools in C#.
  10. Work with the Recruitment Manager to create relevant technical assessments for candidates; participate in the recruitment process for technical staff.

Experience

  1. Understanding and hands-on capability of RF technology, paging systems, two-way radio systems, and IT hardware/software solutions.
  2. Programming languages (it would be advantageous to have C#, Java, Python).
  3. Experience in electrical/electronic production process and best practices (understand fundamental electronics principles, radio telemetry, resistance, radio electronics).
  4. Quality Control processes & inspections.
  5. Ability to undertake build drawings.
  6. ISO-certified environment.
  7. Min HND in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  8. Electrical awareness/qualification (ECS is desirable).
  9. Strong technical aptitude & ability to understand and manage installation process & test company products & systems.
  10. Demonstrated capability and experience to learn new practices quickly and efficiently.
  11. Excels at operating in a fast-paced environment.
