Technical Lead (Java)

Avanti Recruitment is currently working with a UK market leader in the telecommunications infrastructure and software sector, in their search for a Java Technical Lead. This role will be a hybrid position where you will be expected in the office 2 days per week, near Woking.

The company helps internet and communication service providers manage their networks and billings more efficiently.

You will be technically leading a small team of 5, focused on one of the company's premier SaaS platforms, which is a billing and money management software designed for telecommunication companies, internet service providers, and managed service providers. They already work with over 200 of the UK's largest communications providers, and this is a critical point in the company's journey as they scale and refine the product to deliver cutting-edge solutions to their customers.

Your responsibilities:

1. Product focused development
2. Collaborate with stakeholders, customers, and the wider team
3. Lead the team in writing high-quality, scalable, and secure code
4. Set best practices TDD/BDD
5. Technically mentor team members, knowledge sharing, and fostering growth through collaboration
6. Contribute to architecture / design
7. Dealing with technical debt / blockers

Essential skills:

1. Experience leading engineering teams, providing guidance, dealing with blockers, and mentoring developers
2. Hands-on development in Java / Springboot microservices
3. Worked across the full end-to-end product lifecycle (from inception to delivery to maintenance)
4. Strong knowledge of Cloud (AWS), Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices

Desirable:

1. TDD mindset
2. BDD
3. Solutions architecture certification in AWS

The company has a 2 stage interview process consisting of a technical assessment (to do at home) and a face-to-face 90-minute interview at their office.
