Technical Engineer - SAP Development Programme

Location: Swindon

Salary: Between £40,000 - £45,000 per annum

What you’ll be doing

This is an amazing opportunity for budding engineers to join Nationwide. We are seeking people who are keen to progress their career in Financial Services Software Engineering and delivery. If you can work under pressure and to tight deadlines; are not afraid to try, willing to go the extra mile and are an active and valued contributor then we are keen to hear from you.

Our 1-year development programme is designed to develop SAP engineering capabilities in a financial services setting. This immersive experience will expose you to a variety of development and projects that are crucial to the strategy and success of our organisation. You will work alongside industry experts and gain hands-on experience in SAP technologies, even if you have no prior SAP experience.

Your typical day could consist of:

  • Working in an engineering team delivering new capabilities and functionality to our SAP applications.
  • Taking ownership of engineering responsibilities to ensure the quality of deliverables.
  • Proactively picking up tickets and progressing tickets to completion.
  • Present and review technical solutions in peer review forums to ensure high standards are met.
  • Participation in releases and conducting checks in production.
  • Problem shoot engineering issues and feedback solutions to team.
  • Able to analyse any issues by looking for logs, technical errors etc.
  • Develop personal skills through self learning and mentoring - document and share learning.

As someone who collaborates well with others, you’ll be working with other engineers, experts in experience design, application functionality and security and resilience to create an intuitive and performant experience for our members.

About you

The sort of experience that would make you a good fit for this role is:

  • Some experience in a technology focussed role, for example programming or development – Areas such as Eclipse, VSCode, JSON, REST APIs
  • Data, Data Modelling and/or Database Management
  • Reporting and Analytics
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • A keen interest to learn new technologies
  • Ability to listen, understand and proactively convert ideas and suggestions to actions and deliverables
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to liaise with stakeholders across the business
