Technical Designer

Our client is an architectural and interior design consultancy specialising in the retail, commercial, and hospitality & leisure sectors. With nearly two decades of experience, they have become a trusted partner with a range of household names.

We're on the lookout for a highly skilled, detail-oriented Technical Designer / Building Regulations, Principal Designer to join their design studio.

As a key member of the team, this individual will bridge the gap between concept and construction—translating ambitious design visions into robust, buildable solutions. You'll also play a vital role in our implementation of recent legislative changes, helping us maintain compliance, quality, and safety at every stage.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop detailed technical drawing packages that support creative intent and construction practicality.
2. Assess the design for practical construction, identifying potential issues with materials, methods, and construction sequences, and proposing solutions to ensure the project can be built efficiently and effectively.
3. Ensure full compliance with UK Building Regulations and related legislation, including quality control of all drawing packages prior to issue.
4. Support the implementation of new duty holder roles introduced under the Building Safety Act 2022 and The Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2023.
5. Provide Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services, guiding clients through their compliance responsibilities.
6. Coordinate with external consultants and subcontractors, including structural engineers and Principal Designer (CDM), ensuring seamless integration across disciplines.
7. Liaise with local authorities and regulatory bodies throughout planning and technical stages.
8. Produce and manage technical information using AutoCAD (SketchUp and Adobe Suite are a plus).
