Job description

Technical Assistant

Fresh People are currently looking to recruit a Technical Assistant for our fresh produce client based in Maidstone. This role will involve supporting the Technical Team in ensuring product safety, quality, and compliance across various customer requirements and supply chain operations. You will play a key role in KPI reporting, supplier audits, quality monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 8am-5pm

The Candidate

Suitable candidates must have experience working within the fresh produce industry, with strong quality assurance, compliance, and auditing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Prophet ERP systems, and customer audit requirements is highly desirable.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the Group Technical Director in managing product safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Maintain and update customer technical libraries.
  • Organise and oversee product trials, sampling, and new packaging assessments.
  • Support customer site visits and engage with stakeholders on quality-related matters.
  • Manage and report on KPI metrics, including incoming quality, shelf life, wastage, and customer complaints.
  • Conduct internal audits covering CCP, GMP, hygiene, and technical traceability.
  • Support supplier reviews, compliance assessments, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in category transformations, including sample coordination, packaging updates, and product benchmarking.
  • Ensure effective cross-functional communication between Technical, Commercial, Packaging, and Compliance teams.
  • Maintain accurate supplier recall and traceability documentation.
  • Provide support for customer policy changes, industry standards, and resilience planning.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Auditing experience (GMP, CCP, hygiene, traceability).
  • HACCP Level 2 & TACCP trained.
  • Understanding of BRCGS standards and customer audit requirements
  • Experience with Prophet ERP systems (preferred).
  • Background in fresh produce, factory environments, and labelling compliance.
